RECAP: StreetPass NYC’s Mario Kart 7 Launch Tournament Races Past The Finish Line With Flying Colors

###

STREETPASS NYC’S MARIO KART 7 LAUNCH TOURNAMENT RACES PAST THE FINISH LINE WITH FLYING COLORS!

60 People Participate in a Grand Race for the StreetPass NYC Mario Kart 7 Launch Tournament Trophy at the Nintendo World Store!

Sixty Mario Kart fans drifted and launched colored shell assaults on the virtual race track in StreetPass NYC’s Mario Kart 7 Launch Tournament at the Nintendo World Store with twice as many onlookers watching the intense races. All sixty contestants had their eyes on the prize: A real life Mario Kart 7 Golden Racing Trophy as well as a Silver and Bronze medal for 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The Final Race of the Tournament was insanely tough, 150cc with No Items running an entire cup with zero breaks. Out of the final eight contestants (the crème de la crème out of a pool of 60 racers) came three winners: Michael Vavara took home the First Place Winners Trophy, Brian Horne won the Silver 2nd Place Medal and Sam Lautin rounded out 3rd Place for the Bronze Medal.

Winning the trophy was an incredible experience and im looking forward to the next StreetPass NYC event”, exclaimed an excited Michael Vavara who posed for pictures next to his 1St Place Winners Trophy.

All three were interviewed for StreetPass NYC’s YouTube Page.

We want to thank Nintendo of America and the wonderful people at the Nintendo World Store for throwing such a fun and well run launch party, said Jordan White, Founder and Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC, who organized the tournament. We worked very hard to create a fair, organized Tournament and we hope people had as much fun competing in it as we had fun running it!

The Mario Kart 7 event was fantastic! I'm happy I've had so much fun playing Mario Kart with other people, said Peter J. Ortiz, COO and Co-Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC. The tournament ran smoothly, and I'm glad everyone who participated enjoyed themselves!

"Watching all of these people come together and engage in a new Mario Kart experience made me very happy to be a Nintendo fan, Leroy Sylva, Chief Audio/Video Director of StreetPass NYC, agreed with his colleagues.

A huge extra special thanks to Absanael Boggio and ‘Aura’ for handling all of our printed fliers and press materials. We would also like to thank Little Falls Trophy & Engraving (http://www.awardmakers.com) located in Little Falls, NJ for supplying StreetPass NYC with their magnificent trophies.

LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD LAUNCH PARTY WITH STREETPASS NYC SKYROCKETS PAST EXPECTATIONS!

Huge Lines for Zelda Trivia Mini-Posters, Interviews with Zelda Cosplayers and More as Fans Celebrate the Release of the Wii’s Magnum Opus!

Zelda Fans from all over North America braved the freezing cold the previous night and the morning of November 19th at the Nintendo World Store to be first in line to pick up the newest game in the series “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword”.  Alongside this fantastic event from Nintendo of America, StreetPass NYC was there to run a challenging Zelda Trivia Contest for Mini-Posters and to award the best Zelda cosplayers with The Legend of Zelda-themed necklaces.

We want to thank Nintendo of America and the wonderful people at the Nintendo World Store for throwing such a fun and well run launch party, said Jordan White, Founder and Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC, who camped outside of the store since 8:00 PM that previous night to be the 12th person in line. The smiles of people’s faces and the excitement of the crowd despite the freezing weather showed proved to the world how passionate the New York Legend of Zelda fans are and we were glad to give back to that community via awesome fan-run contests!

After 25 years, The Legend of Zelda series still proves itself by setting new boundaries, and setting new standards for gaming as a whole. No one should miss out on this exciting adventure, said Peter J. Ortiz, COO and Co-Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC.

Echoing that statement, Leroy Sylvia, Chief Audio/Video Director of StreetPass NYC, shared his amazement of their celebration of New York Zelda fandom. "For 25 years, Zelda has taken everyone on mystical journeys in the land of Hyrule. Today showed that fans are suited up and ready for adventure once again!

StreetPass NYC also invited two very special Zelda fans to the Launch Party and they shared in everyone’s excitement for the new Wii game as well:

It was well worth the wait in line for. I met a ton of cool Nintendo fans, traded Friend Codes and Street Passes with, did Zelda Trivia, some interviews and most importantly got the game, said Isaiah TriForce Johnson, who loves the Legend of Zelda series so much he changed his first name to include the mystical object of legend in the game. This is an experience in gaming that only Nintendo has brought for almost 30 years. Keep going Nintendo.

I had a great time at the Skyward Sword Launch Party, said Sam O'Neill, dressed as the The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker character Tingle and better known from her very popular YouTube blog under the name Nintendo Fan Girl. It was awesome meeting and hanging out with tons of other Zelda fans, and seeing all the Zelda-themed swag inside Nintendo World got me even more hyped up for Skyward Sword! Getting the game a day early was just the icing on the cake. All in all I had a lot of fun and it was definitely worth waiting outside in the cold for 8 hours.

A huge extra special thanks to Absanael Boggio and ‘Aura’ for printing out these amazing mini-posters spanning 25 years of Zelda history, handling all of our printed fliers and press materials. We would also like to thank once again Nicholas Oehlberg, Co-Founder of StreetPass Princeton for creating the amazing Legend of Zelda-themed Perler Beads to give away in our Zelda Cosplaying Contest.

StreetPass NYC’s next major events will be the Launch Party for Mario Kart 7 in December and a fan gathering for SEGA’s Sonic Generations on Nintendo 3DS before the end of November. More details of these events will be released when all aspects of the launch are finalized by Nintendo of America and SEGA of America respectively.

EXCLUSIVE: Here is our favorite Zelda Cosplayer who won First Place in the Competition! We will have more videos online shortly:

MARIO SUCCESSFULLY CELEBRATES HIS NINTENDO 3DS DEBUTE IN TIMES SQUARE WITH STREETPASS NYC!

Total Tanooki Madness with a Mushroom Kingdom Playground, Tanooki Tails and Ears, Jon Bon Jovi, Mario Necklaces and More!!

StreetPass NYC attended Nintendo of America’s huge celebration of the launch of the plumber’s new adventure on Nintendo 3DS “Super Mario 3D Land” in Times Square at Military Island. Nintendo set up a huge Mushroom Kingdom-themed activity playground, served Mushroom Pizza, let fans buy the game early at the local Toys R Us and even handed out Tanooki Ears and Tails to the crowd!

The entire event was pure insanity! I wish I had this kind of launch party when Super Mario Brothers 3 came out, said Jordan White, Founder and Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC who wore a full Tanooki Suit to the event. It was amazing seeing others in costume and the smiles on everyone’s faces. The StreetPass hits alone were worth the trip. One of our members got 160 hits in one session! It will be cool to play new bonuses in Super Mario 3D Land via StreetPass!

"A real Mario world to play in, complimentary Tanooki tails/ears and an early sale of the game? This launch event was a love letter to all of Nintendo fans in New York City!" said Leroy Sylva, Chief Audio/Video Director of StreetPass NYC. The COO and Co-Event Organizer of StreetPass NYC, Peter J. Ortiz, agreed: Super Mario 3D Land event was awesome! Events like this prove that Nintendo knows how to party!

I can finely match Mario with my very own Tanooki Mario tail and ears. The game rocks and the event was awesome! said Nicholas Oehlberg, Co-Founder of StreetPass Princeton, who provided Mario-Themed Perler Bead Necklaces for StreetPass NYC’s “Toads House Treasure Chest” contest.

Avid attendees of StreetPass NYC’s meetings also had strong positive comments to say of the event.

At long last, Super Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS is finally here! said StreetPass NYC fan, Jeffery Flock.

Time Square was packed, and when I put on the Tanooki ears & tail on for the photo booth, I felt like I could really fly! Also, when I tried the game out, it hyped me up even more! Can't wait to pick up my copy! said avid StreetPass NYC fan, Steven Troya.

Super Mario 3D Land event held in New York City was a very fun, family friendly event held by Nintendo. Everybody waiting in line and trust me, there was a ton of people! Got the chance to enter a real life Mario Stage and jump for coins, travel through the warp pipe and slide down the flag pole, said StreetPass NYC fan, Nick Defelice.

We would also like to thank Absanael Boggio for handling all of our printed fliers and press materials, Toys R Us for hosting the event and Nintendo of America for making such an event possible in the heart of Times Square.

StreetPass NYC’s next major events will be for the launch party of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the launch party for Mario Kart 7 in December. A launch event for SEGA’s Sonic Generations on Nintendo 3DS is also in progress. More details of these events will be released when all aspects of the launch are finalized by Nintendo of America.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is a fund-raising program for children sponsored by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The program historically involves the distribution of small orange boxes by schools to trick-or-treaters, in which they can solicit small change donations from the houses they visit. Millions of children in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, and Hong Kong participate in Halloween-related fund-raising events for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, and the program has raised over US $188 million worldwide.

Today is "Stop The Swarm!" -- Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Contest!

Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=160375684035563

Meet-Up Page: http://www.meetup.com/Nintendo3DS/New-York-NY/305281/

Directions: B, D, F, M Train to 42nt Street, Bryant Park

Location: Bryant Park Center, Grassy Area

StreetPass NYC presents "Stop the Swarm!" This special event, which is part of a worldwide "Stop the Swarm!" series, challenges you to stop a swarm of Resident Evil monsters that are on the move. It's up to you and your fellow Nintendo 3DS owners to keep your city safe!

During the event, participants will attempt to get an "S" or "SS" ranking in any single mission. Anyone who does so at least once during the event will have helped "Stop the Swarm!" and will also have their name and rankings listed on StreetPass NYC, StreetPass Network and maybe even other gaming blogs like the Capcom Unity Blog!

Those who make "S" or "SS" ranking will be paired into Duos and group contestants will compete in a Level 4 or above Mission (chosen on the day) and try to get the highest score.

The Duo with the highest score will earn a small money prize/gift card that will be revealed at the event!
The Top Three Duos will also have their name and rankings listed on StreetPass NYC, StreetPass Network and maybe even other gaming blogs like the Capcom Unity Blog!

We will also have a Resident Evil Cosplay contest with a separate cash/gift card prize at the event! Try to dress either as a Resident Evil character or your most gruesome monster!

Finally, (as of now only limited to the contestants of the events) we will have Face Painter(s) to turn our members into zombies! At around 5:50pm we will march down to Duffy Square in Times Square (where the red steps are) for our Group Photo!

If you don't have a copy of Resident Evil: Mercenaries and want to participate, you might be able to borrow a copy of the game from another person.

We can't promise that extra copies will be available, though, so the best way to participate is by bringing your own copy of the game.

NOTE: If you're uninterested in "Stop the Swarm!" or too young to play Resident Evil: Mercenaries, you're welcome to treat this event as a regular StreetPass NYC meetup ala Giant AR Cards and StreetPassing!
